Sifnos Bus Timetable

The island publishes its bus schedule as a photograph of a printed sheet, in Greek and Greeklish. On a phone it is hard to read. So every season we type it out here, exactly as the municipality publishes it, and link to the original.

The basics

Where everything goes from: Apollonia. Almost every line goes through the capital, so for most journeys you change there.
How you pay: From the driver, as you get on. There is no ticket office, so have small notes and coins on you.
What it costs: €2.20 to €3.50 a journey, depending how far you go.
The last buses: The last bus down to Platis Gialos leaves Artemonas at 21:00, and the last one back up out of Platis Gialos is at 22:30. The last bus toward the port leaves Artemonas at 23:00, and the last one out of Kamares is the 23:15, which runs only as far as Artemonas.

What the bus passes through

The poster names each line by its two ends, so the bus down to the bay is printed as Apollonia to Platis Gialos. It stops at villages in between and the sheet never names them, so each road below carries every stop we know of.

The stop is on the main road: Chrysopigi is about 10 minutes below it on foot.

The villages in darker type are printed on the official sheet. The rest are stops we know from Elena and from the island's mapped stops, and they carry no departure time of their own. Say the name to the driver as you get on.

The timetable

The times are departures from the first stop on each line. A bus that leaves Artemonas reaches Apollonia a few minutes later. The small numbers mark the departures that take a different route, and the note under each line says which.

The marked time on each line is the next departure, going by the clock on Sifnos.

Our house sits above Platis Gialos, seven to ten minutes on foot from the stop by the bay. Kamares, Apollonia and the beach are all on this one line, and there is parking for five cars if you would rather drive.

Where the buses wait in Apollonia

The stops in Apollonia are all within a minute of each other around the main square, and each one serves its own direction. Guests get it wrong on their first day.

For Kamares, the port: In front of the Hellenic Post Office.
For Artemonas: Opposite the Hellenic Post Office.
For Platis Gialos, Chrysopigi, Faros and Vathi: In front of the Hotel Anthousa.
For Kastro: Opposite the Hotel Anthousa.

What we tell guests about the bus

Watch the morning gap out of Kamares. After the 07:15 the next bus is the 09:30, and that catches people off an early ferry.
The schedule comes out again around four times a year. Spring and autumn run a lot thinner, and winter thinner again.
The bus goes to the villages and the beaches attached to them. Kamares, Platis Gialos, Faros, Vathi and the Chrysopigi stop. It does not go to the quiet coves or to the trailheads.
The same line takes a different route at different times of day. The footnotes show which. If you are not sure the bus in front of you is yours, say your village to the driver before you get on.

If you are staying with us

Our house is above Platis Gialos. The bus stop is down by the bay, the same 7 to 10 minutes as the beach. The beach, Apollonia and the port are all on the one line. Our four-bedroom villa above Platis Gialos.

If you want dinner up in Apollonia, look at the times first. The last bus back down leaves Artemonas at 21:00 and passes Apollonia a few minutes later, and that is about when a Greek dinner gets going. Most of our guests drive up, or hire a car for a few days. How car hire works on Sifnos.

Common questions about the Sifnos bus

Is there a bus from Kamares port to Platis Gialos?

Yes. Every bus goes through Apollonia. The line runs Kamares to Apollonia to Artemonas and down to Platis Gialos, roughly hourly from mid-morning until 21:30, with one long gap in the morning between the 07:15 and the 09:30.

How much is the bus in Sifnos?

€2.20 to €3.50 a journey at the 2026 fares, and you pay the driver as you get on. Kamares to Platis Gialos, Vathi, Kastro, Faros or Cheronissos is €3.50. Most journeys that start in Artemonas are €2.20.

Do the buses run in the evening?

Yes, and later than on most small islands. Buses to Kamares run until 23:00 and the last one out of the port is at 23:15, though that one goes only as far as Artemonas. Out of Platis Gialos the last is earlier, at 22:30. Outside July and August the evening service thins out.

Can I get around Sifnos without a car?

If you stay in Apollonia, Kamares or Platis Gialos, yes. Every main village is on the bus, and so are the beaches at Kamares, Platis Gialos, Faros and Vathi, and the Chrysopigi stop. For the quiet coves and the trailheads you need a car. The same if you want dinner at your own hour.

Where do I catch the bus in Apollonia?

Around the main square, and each direction has its own stop. The Kamares bus waits in front of the Hellenic Post Office and the Artemonas bus opposite it. The bus south, for Platis Gialos, Chrysopigi, Faros and Vathi, waits in front of the Hotel Anthousa, and the Kastro bus opposite the hotel.
