Milos to Sifnos
Written by Elena Philippou, who hosts Villa Olivia Clara above Platis Gialos.Updated August 2026
The crossing from Milos to Sifnos takes ≈40–50 min on the fast ferry, from €34.70, with up to six or seven crossings a day in peak summer. The slower conventional boats take ≈1–2¼ h and start from €6.50. Both dock at Kamares, the only port on Sifnos.
This is the shortest useful hop into Sifnos, and it doubles as a back door from Athens: Milos has a domestic airport with several flights a day from the mainland, so flying to Milos and crossing is a real alternative to the long boat from Piraeus.

| Service | Duration | Fare from | Sailings |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast ferry | ≈40–50 min | €34.70 | Up to 6–7 a day in peak summer |
| Conventional ferry | ≈1–2¼ h | €6.50 | Up to 6–7 a day in peak summer |

Two reasons. Milos and Sifnos sit on the same Western Cyclades ferry line, so pairing them costs under an hour of travel, which makes it the easiest two-island trip in this part of the Cyclades. And Milos has a domestic airport with several flights a day from Athens, which turns a five-hour boat from Piraeus into a short flight and a ≈40–50 min crossing.
≈40–50 min on the fast ferry from €34.70, and ≈1–2¼ h on the conventional boats, which start from €6.50. In peak summer there are as many as six or seven crossings a day, more than on any other island route into Sifnos. Boats leave from the main port on Milos and dock at Kamares.
Milos airport takes several flights a day from Athens, and the hop across is ≈40–50 min. The catch is the connection: you are relying on a flight and a boat lining up on the same day, and if the meltemi cancels the crossing you are on Milos for the night. Leave yourself margin, and don't book it for a day you have to be somewhere.
A short crossing is not an immune one. The meltemi peaks in July and August and takes the fast boats off first, while the conventional ferries usually keep sailing. On a windy forecast, book the slow boat. A weather cancellation entitles you to a full refund or free rebooking on the next departure.
Every ferry docks at Kamares on the west coast, the island's only port. From the quay it is 14.2 km up to the villa above Platis Gialos, a 20 to 30 minute drive. Tell Elena which boat you are on and she will point you to a trusted driver and to a car-hire desk by the quay, so the last leg is settled before you sail.
≈40–50 min on the fast ferry, and ≈1–2¼ h on the conventional boats.
Up to six or seven crossings a day in peak summer, which makes it the best-connected island route into Sifnos. There are fewer outside July and August.
From €34.70 on the fast ferry and from €6.50 on the conventional boats. Those are the cheapest published 2026 fares, verified August 2026.
Yes, and plenty of people do. Milos has a domestic airport with several flights a day from Athens, and the crossing is ≈40–50 min. Allow margin between the two: if wind cancels the boat, you spend the night on Milos.
They are different islands. Milos has the more dramatic beaches and the bigger crowds; Sifnos is greener and quieter, with the stronger food culture. We live on Sifnos, so weigh that as you will. The crossing is under an hour, so on a longer trip the honest answer is both.
Coming from somewhere else? Santorini, Mykonos, Serifos and Kimolos all connect to Sifnos, and they are covered on the main getting-here guide.
Tell us when you're coming and how many of you there are, and we'll be honest about whether we're the right fit for your trip.
